Language:

The DustMon RD 100 was designed to reliably measure the dustiness of granular products and powders and to determine the dust index.

The Dustmon RD 100 is an ideal system to measure the amount of dust and determine the dust index. This compact benchtop analyzer provides real-time analyses with high reproducibility and stability. The analysis method complies with CIPAC MT 171.

The dustiness of products can have negative effects on several levels.
Dust can adversely affect on:

  • the product quality and performance
  • the handling processes
  • health

Benefits at a glance

  • User-friendly interface with integrated display if used as stand-alone device
  • Easy measurement setup and full data control when using the software: measurement data are saved, comparison of up to 10 different dust curves
  • High accuracy due to adjustable measurement time
  • Fast and reproducible determination of dust index, e. g. in 30 sec, thanks to 1000 measurements per second
  • High reproducibility thanks to large measurement area of the white light source
  • Simple user interface with integrated display
  • Analysis complies with CIPAC MT 171 method

The DustMon RD 100 quantifies the dustiness of a sample accurately and reproducibly. It is used to objectively evaluate the effectiveness of dust reduction measures such as agglomeration, granulation, adsorption on liquids or addition of dust reducing agents. The measurement results are used to:

  • ensure product quality
  • optimize processes
  • minimize health risks

Examples of dusty bulk materials for analysis with the DustMon RD 100 are

  • Cement
  • Washing powder, cat litter
  • Coffee or milk powder
  • Absorbers, fertilizers
Graphical presentation of measurement results

The above screenshot taken from the DustMon Windows Software shows the dust concentration versus time. The upper yellow graph shows the result of a dusty sample (dindex=62), the red graph shows a less dusty sample whereas the green graph represents a rather dust-free sample (dindex=7).

RETSCH’s DustMon RD 100 consists of a dosing control system (sample beaker [1] with a valve and a tube [2]), which is easily detachable for cleaning and transportation, a sample collector [3], a light source [4] and a detector [5].

The sample is poured into the sample beaker [1]. On starting the measurement, the valve opens and the sample drops down the tube [2] into the sample collector [3].

The dust generated in the sample collector will be measured by the detector [5] and the resulting dust index will be displayed.

Results:

  • Dust concentration as a function of time as well as the calculated parameters (e.g. dust index, dust area)
  • Dust concentration, dust index (maximum and concentration) and dust area available after 30 seconds
